In short

KUBO Jewelry applies brand marks to stainless steel jewelry by laser engraving, etching, stamping or raised logo, and supplies branded packaging including poly bags, printed cards, kraft or rigid boxes, pouches and inserts. Logo placement, depth and packaging specification are confirmed at the brief stage.

Packaging is usually the last thing a buyer thinks about and the first thing the customer photographs. It is also where a well-made piece can be made to look ordinary, or an ordinary piece made to look considered.

Engraving methods

Four methods, each with a different look and a different minimum:

Laser engraving — a fine, dark mark cut into the metal. Fast, precise, no tooling, and the most versatile for small text and simple marks. On stainless steel the mark reads as dark grey rather than black, which suits a refined brand mark but will not deliver a deep sculpted look.

Laser engraving a logo onto a stainless steel pendant
Laser engraving at the bench — no tooling, and the same setup serves one piece or a full run.

Etching — a recessed mark with a slightly softer edge than laser. Good for larger marks and for consistent density over a curved surface.

Stamping — a die struck into the metal, leaving a raised or recessed impression with a distinctly crafted character. Requires a die, so it carries tooling cost and a higher practical minimum. On hard stainless steel, stamping depth is limited compared with softer metals.

Raised logo — produced in the tooling itself, so the mark stands proud of the surface. The most premium look and the most expensive, because it is part of the mould.

Placement, and where it goes wrong

Placement decisions that come up repeatedly:

  • On a ring, the inner band is the standard position — but it must clear the sizing mark and stay legible after resizing. Above roughly 9 characters it becomes cramped.
  • On a pendant, the reverse face is usual. If the reverse is visible when worn, the polish there must match, which adds cost.
  • On a clasp, a small mark is discreet but often invisible in use, which defeats the purpose.
  • On packaging only, with a plain piece. Cheaper, and increasingly common in mid-market ranges.

Packaging specification

We supply and brand the following, matched to the piece:

FormatTypical use
Poly bag + printed cardVolume e-commerce, lowest cost
Kraft box + insertMid-market retail, good sustainability signalling
Rigid box + foam insertPremium retail and gifting
Suede or cotton pouchEveryday and travel
Custom printed sleeveBrand-led unboxing

Two practical notes. First, packaging minimums are usually higher than jewelry minimums, because boxes are printed in batches — a 300-piece jewelry run may need 500 boxes. Second, packaging weight affects shipping cost at volume, which matters more than most buyers expect on air freight.

The compliance label

For the EU, packaging and the piece both need to carry the responsible economic operator's name and address under GPSR (Regulation (EU) 2023/988), which came into force in December 2024. For the US, state-level rules on heavy metals in packaging apply in a number of states. Say which market you are selling into at the brief stage and the labelling will be specified with the packaging rather than discovered at customs.

Two honest notes. First, the "economic operator" is normally your EU importer or your fulfilment partner, not the factory — we print the label from artwork you supply. Second, printing a label is not the same as certifying the product: the label states who is responsible, and the underlying test evidence remains the importer's obligation unless you have commissioned it separately.
